Thoughts on Graduation

Well…In about five days I will be a college graduate. Although I am very excited, I am also very sad. I am going to miss my cozy environment in Statesboro with all my friends and my roommates. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and if I could do it all over again I would! But most of all, I am going to miss RJ’s. I have spent approximately 35 hours there every week for the past three years, which is way more time than any other place I have wasted my time!

My co-workers have become my family and my home-away-from-home. They are all very proud of me and are very supportive as I close this chapter of my life and move on to the next, but I know they will miss me as much as I will miss them!

Searching For Some Cowgirl Boots!

Next week Tim McGraw is coming to perform at Georgia Southern. Every year GSU hosts a spring concert and I have never been, but considering that this is my last year, I decided to go! I’m not a huge country music fan, but I like to listen to it every once in a while.

The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. next Friday, so my friends and I are going to the tailgating grounds with a cooler of

around 4:00! I’m currently hunting around for some cowgirl boots to wear with a plaid shirt and cut offs…wish me luck!

18 Days Until Graduation!

Well, there are 18 more days left until Graduation. This semester has been relatively easy so far and I only have about three more assignments due until the big day. I have decided to enjoy my last few weeks of college, so I’ve been taking advantage of laying by the pool, naps, the occasional happy hour, and late night dancing with my roommates, when I’m not working.

My school work , however, has dwindled down to almost nothing, because I have turned in all of my articles, papers, and assignments…which is great!

The Thursday before graduation my sister, brother, boyfriend, and friend Lauren are all coming to stay with me and celebrate!

My roommates are hosting a graduation party for me that night, which I am so excited about! The following day, my parents are coming down to stay for the weekend and I’m going to take them out to dinner at the restuarant that I have worked at for the past three years (It’s going to be a sad night!). The next morning will be graduation, so after that we are going down to Savannah to eat at Vics on the River: www.vicsontheriver.com …Should be delicious!

I made a vegetarian chili last night and it was delicious! My sister gave me inspiration for this dish (we are both vegetarians). At first I was a little skeptical about using the fake “ground beef”. It is made by Boca and it looks exactly like ground beef, but it is made out of soy protien. I really dont like the taste of beef now, so I was a little freaked out by the look of the dish. Anyways, I sauteed one onion in a nonstick pan for about 5 minutes, then I added a package of chili seasoning (McCorkmicks). I then added a large can of After that I then added the Boca crumbles, followed by a can of black beans. Lastly, I added salt and pepper and garlic powder to taste and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. The result:

It was delisicous! I recommend everyone try this recipe!

Job Interview

This Friday I have my first interview for a job in Atlanta. It’s with a company called Vitrue. They are a social media network and they work for Facebook and Twitter. I am so nervous about this interview, because I really need the job. My sister actually set me up for the interview. She is a bartender at Taco Mac in downtown Atlanta, and one of her regular customers asked if she knew of anybody seeking a job in media…so she recommended me! Post Marathon Blues

So far the recovery process has been okay. I am still running and working out, but my legs feel really tired. My muscles feel like they are strained after a workout. I think I will take a few rest days so I don’t get injured. I have been thinking about what I want to do next, and since the warm weather is coming back, I’m thinking about a triathlon….maybe just a nice short sprint distance.

I kind of miss doing my long runs on Friday morning. Even though they were tough, I looked forward to challenging myself. As of right now, I’m still not ready to even think about trying another marathon!

However, my love for snickers bars still remain! I am having to fight to stay away from them, but Easter is coming up and I’m thinking that I might have to give in!

Recovering

I think the soreness has finally worn off. These last few days have been very uncomfortable. I have, however, been sleeping like a baby. Yesterday was my first day back in the gym. It felt pretty good but my legs still feel pretty heavy. The back pain has finally subsided (thank God!!) and my spirits are slowly rising. I felt slightly depressed for two days after the race. I guess it took a lot out of me and I was in so much pain I couldn’t really celebrate my success.

As of right now, I’m not quite sure what to do with myself. I have nothing to look forward to sports wise, so I am just taking it easy. I’m not sure what my next challenge will be yet!

I did it!

Well, I did it. I completed my first marathon. It was the most painful experience of my life, but I’m glad I did. My whole body hurts at the moment and I don’t think that I will be signing up for another race anytime soon.

On Sunday morning, my dad and I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and had breakfast (I had peanut butter toast and a banana). We left the house at about 5:30 and got to the racing grounds at about 6:15. By 7:00 we were in our corale and ready to race. There were about 20,000 people participating in the race, but most of them were doing the half marathon. The road was packed from front to back and side to side for several miles. At mile marker 7, the course split off, separating the marathoners from the half marathoners.

I was feeling strong until about mile 18; that’s when I really began to struggle. The course was very hilly which posed as a huge obstacle to me, because I had trained on mostly flat terrain. My hip flexors and quads were burnt out and my back felt like someone was punching me with every step I took. My dad ran in front of me, and then would wait for me to catch up periodically. We shared a Snicker’s bar at mile 18 (which was delicious), but the only thought in my mind was that I still had 8.2 more miles to go. I didn’t want to walk, because I knew it would just take me longer to finish if I did. So, I just kept on trundling along until I got to mile 22….

At the top of the hill I could see my dad talking to someone in a big orange sweat shirt and someone else in a black jacket….it was my boy friend and my big sister . They had made signs and brought each of us another Snicker’s bar (which I couldn’t stomach). Seeing them boosted my morale and gave me the courage to keep going to the end. Although 2.5 miles doesn’t seem like a long way, after 24 miles, it feels like forever.

Finally, we made it to the finish line. I was so happy that I had finished and all my family was there to cheer me on. We then went to Chili’s for lunch where I had some cheese fries and a black bean burger topped with onion straws and bbq sauce and a tall frosty bud light (dad had real meat of course). It was absolutely delicious, but the taste of success was even better!

Looking Forward to a Rest!

My Spring Break starts tonight after I get off work. I am so happy I don’t have to do a long run tomorrow. All I have to focus on now is resting and drinking plenty….of water . I am rather concerned about drinking before my race, but it is my last college Spring Break ever, because I am graduating in May! …and it’s St. Patty’s Day. I think my plan of action will be just to drink beer, avoid liquor, and try to drink water in between.
